Troubleshooting Problems Opening DDI Files
Common DDI Opening Problems
Unknown Software Removed
When you double-click your DDI file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Unknown Software for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your DDI with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: Another DDI-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Unknown Software Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Unknown Software installed that's incompatible with your DiskDupe Disk Image type. If you've got the wrong version of Unknown Software installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your DiskDupe Disk Image file was created by a newer Unknown Software than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your DDI file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of DDI file opening issues are due to not having the correct Unknown Software version installed.
Additional DDI Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Unknown Software will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening DDI files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- DDI file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the DDI file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of Unknown Software or other DDI-related program
- Your DDI can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your DDI
- Drivers associated with DDI software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the DiskDupe Disk Image format
